King and Carmichael

King and Carmichael are two different, but very similar black men. King implies that the blacks have begun to use non-violent demonstrations and marches to prove to the whites that violence isn’t the answer. On the other hand Carmichael is saying that the blacks should defend themselves and that the whites should stop hiding behind police officers and stand up for themselves. I agree that King and Carmichael both believe in non-violence, to a certain extent, a point that needs emphasizing since so many people believe Carmichael is a very violent black man. Although I disagree with much of what King says, I fully endorse his final conclusion that violence is not the answer.

  1. Hello, Steven!I’m Jessy. I’m a student in eng101. Thank you for allowing me to read your blog. You do a good job in your blog because you show the reader the common and the difference of King and Carmichael’s opinion, but you just summary their ideas and do not explain how violence works in their ideas clearly. I really appreciate the way you use to distinguish what you say from what they say. For example, “King implies that …” “Carmichael is saying that …” “I agree that …”…these templates make me know what King and Carmichael’s ideas are and what your opinion is exactly. I also learn how to agree and disagree simultaneously with others’ opinions from your blog. However, I‘m a little bit confused about your first sentence, “King and Carmichael are two different but similar black people”. Because all the reading material is about the ideas of this two people rather than what kind of person they are, I wonder where you get it and why you say it. Overall your blog is good but you might try to give more details and your analysis on King and Carmichael’s ideas so that readers can understand King’s idea and Carmichael’s idea completely and figure out the differences between these ideas.
